Welcome to the CAMBRIDGEVEINS web site. This site contains information about a number of conditions affecting the veins of the leg and how they can be treated. A range of topics are covered which you can select by clicking on the relevant headings. Treatments include thermal ablation with laser (EVLA) and radiofrequency (VNUS); the new Clarivein procedure with a combined physical and chemical ablation of the vein; foam sclerotherapy and lastly traditional open surgery.

The commonest problem is varicose veins. In this condition the veins of the leg become enlarged, protruding out from the normal contour of the leg. They can look like lumps under the skin especially when standing.

The causes, symptoms, and treatments for varicose veins and other venous problems are explained here. The opinions expressed are those of the author Mr Kevin Varty BM BCh BA Hons (Oxon) MD FRCS, a Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon in Cambridge. These are based on over 14 years of clinical experience and knowledge of current scientific thinking. If you wish to contact Mr Varty, the details are available in the Contact section.
